Wide Open Spaces

Pasture Boarding in NWA --
Real Land, Real Care

~50 acres of rolling Arkansas countryside in Garfield. Natural grazing, daily wellness checks, and a family that lives on-site -- all for $350/month.

What Is Pasture Boarding?

Pasture boarding is the most natural way to keep your horse. Instead of spending their days in a stall or small enclosure, your horse lives out on open land -- grazing, moving, and socializing the way horses were meant to. At Cates Horse Boarding, pasture boarding means your horse has access to approximately 50 acres of rolling hills and lush grassland right here in Garfield, Arkansas.

This is not a dusty pen behind someone's barn. This is real, open range in the heart of Northwest Arkansas -- green pastures, natural shade trees, fresh water sources, and room to roam. Horses that board with us on pasture have space to be horses. They graze naturally throughout the day, they move freely, and they develop the kind of calm, healthy temperament that comes from living in a low-stress environment.

Pasture boarding is our most affordable option at $350 per month, but "affordable" does not mean "less care." Every pasture-boarded horse at Cates receives the same daily individual wellness check that our stall and paddock boarders get. We walk the fields every single day, check on every horse by name, and make sure your animal is healthy, happy, and accounted for.

Who Is Pasture Boarding Best For?

Pasture boarding works beautifully for a wide range of horses and owners. If your horse is healthy, enjoys being outdoors, and thrives with room to move, pasture boarding is likely the ideal fit. Here are a few scenarios where pasture boarding really shines:

What Is Included in Pasture Boarding?

Every pasture boarder at Cates receives: daily individual wellness checks by the family (not hired staff), quality hay provided (or bring your own), fresh water always available, access to our brand new round pen, on-site professional trainer available, and the peace of mind that comes from knowing a family lives on this property 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Why Cates Pasture Boarding Is Different

The biggest difference between Cates Horse Boarding and any other pasture boarding in NWA comes down to one thing: we live here. This is our family's home. Donald Cates walks these fields every morning and every evening. When a storm rolls through at 2 AM, we are already here. When your horse is acting off at dinner time, we notice -- because we are not checking in from a distance. We are right here.

We also know every single horse by name, personality, and quirk. If your mare is picky about which corner of the field she grazes in, we know that. If your gelding tends to stand by the gate when he is not feeling well, we notice. That level of personal attention is something you will not get at a large commercial facility -- and it is something we take seriously.

Cates Horse Boarding is a registered LLC with proper boarding contracts. We are professional, accountable, and committed to doing right by every horse and every owner who trusts us with their animal. We also maintain a 5.0 star rating on Google -- because the people who board with us know the difference real care makes.

The Land

Our property sits on approximately 50 acres along Gann Ridge Road in Garfield, Arkansas -- just minutes from Bentonville, Rogers, and Bella Vista. The land includes natural rolling hills, mature shade trees, and proximity to Pea Ridge National Military Park, which means beautiful trail riding is right around the corner. This is not flat, featureless land. It is the kind of terrain that keeps horses engaged, moving, and healthy.

Common Questions

Pasture Boarding FAQ

Yes. We live on the property and check on every horse daily. Our pastures are well-maintained, fenced, and monitored. If anything seems off with your horse, we notice -- and we contact you right away.

We do. Quality hay is included in your pasture boarding fee. If you prefer to supply your own hay or supplement, that is perfectly fine too -- we are flexible and happy to accommodate your horse's needs.

Absolutely. Round pen access is included for all boarders, regardless of tier. You are also welcome to work with our on-site trainer, Isabella Sartain of Vintage Spur LLC.

Horses on pasture have access to natural shelter and shade. If severe weather is expected, we monitor conditions closely and take appropriate action. Because we live here, we are able to respond immediately to any weather situation -- day or night.

We require a current negative Coggins test, up-to-date vaccinations, and a signed boarding agreement. We encourage a property visit before committing so you can see the land, meet the family, and feel confident in your decision.

Most NWA boarding facilities charge $500 to $800+ per month for comparable care. At $350/month, Cates offers real land, daily individual checks, and family on-site care at a price that is genuinely hard to beat in this area.
